Evan Husney, the executive producer of Dark Side of the Ring, has reaffirmed their stance on the contentious episode spotlighting the notorious WWE Plane Ride from Hell in 2002. This episode invoked renewed discussions regarding the events on the infamous flight from the United Kingdom to the United States.
The report contained significant mention of Ric Flair, alleging that he coerced a flight attendant into touching his privates. Following this, WWE chose to exclude Flair from their introduction video.
Despite Flair’s subsequent objection to the allegations broadcasted in the episode, Husney defended his program during an interaction with “WrestleBinge”. His comment was piece for piece, “It was a pretty intense experience. I perceive that episode made waves at a point where narratives of this nature incited uproar and backlash on social platforms… For me, personally, I am fully supportive of the information disclosed in the episode, and what people claimed is precisely what they said.”
In response to the criticism received post-broadcast, Husney clarified that their team’s intention was not to tarnish anyone’s reputation, but simply to narrate the accounts they were informed about.
The show itself has been a subject to controversy too. Wrestling commentator Jim Ross has voiced his decision to withdraw from further appearances on Dark Side of the Ring, attributing it to misleading editing that created distorted narratives.
