AJ Styles, reminisced about a funny event that occurred during a 2016 episode of WWE SmackDown. In a match with Dean Ambrose, Styles ended up trapping his crotch on the top rope.
This uncomfortable position was maintained by Styles well into a dark match that followed the main lineup.
While speaking at a recent Fanatics live signing during WrestleMania 41 weekend, Styles clarified there was no particular reason for his stunt, he was only looking to have a good time. He commented,
“Honestly, I don’t know why I did it. It was a good feeling, not exactly in the way you’d imagine, but I thought it could be amusing if I kept in that position the entire match.”
He went on, “I’m unsure if John [Cena] liked that I remained there, but it didn’t matter as I was enjoying myself. That’s the intention. If wrestling isn’t enjoyable, then what’s the point? So, I stayed in that position and let everyone join in on the entertainment. There was no particular reason, I just did it.”
There is a new docuseries named WWE: Unreal in the pipeline of WWE, with plans for it to debut on Netflix this summer.
With the intent to provide a backstage eye into WWE’s creative methods and operations, the series is sure to gather quite a fanbase.
Paul Heyman, WWE Hall of Famer, recently made an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” expressing his personal views on the upcoming docuseries.
His words were, “I’m not obligated to like it. I’m more of an old-school gentleman. I stick to the basic principle of bad guys being bad and good guys being good…Do I like having a camera shoved in my face as I move from backstage character to on-screen personality? No, I don’t. But will I resist it? No, is the simple answer…I have to adjust and exploit this change in the industry and be on board with it or get left behind…Resisting the change will leave me out of the ‘WWE: Unreal’ and I’ll miss the train as the industry speeds into the future without me. You either adapt with time, or get left behind reminiscing about how things were ‘back in the day’.”
