In a recent episode of his “My World” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett conveyed his thoughts about a variety of subjects, including his reluctance to relinquish the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and why Diamond Dallas Page (DDP) never clinched the title.
Here’s a snapshot of some key takeaways from the podcast:
Discussing why DDP didn’t become the TNA World Heavyweight Champion, he said, “Not once did Dusty ever come to me and say, ‘Hey, I want to make DDP champion.’ I consider this as a form of newsletter clickbait. There were frequent debates about potential title changes and who the heel antagonists would be. Furthermore, DDP wasn’t contractually bound and did not wish to work many matches. In fact, after his run here, I doubt he participated in many. DDP, I believe, wouldn’t have relished the champion’s position at that point.”
Speaking about the controversy it stirred, he remarked, “Remember, always consider the source. It’s an intriguing narrative to stir up a little controversy by saying, ‘We’re going to make DDP champion.’ I don’t mind that… The worst-case scenario is people no longer discussing us. So, if there’s a story out there claiming ‘Jeff refuses to hand over the title to DDP,’ I view this as a positive.”
The podcast also included a video aptly titled “My World: Why TNA Didn’t Give DDP The Title”.
