Welcome to another instalment of eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!
We have successfully wrapped up NXT Deadline 2024 (see the results here) and I’m keen to know your views on it! What made the event for you, and what broke it? Which incidents caught your eye as the high and low points? What are the key takeaways for you? Share your thoughts.
For today’s discussion, my question is “What are the winning and losing points of WWE NXT Deadline 2024 for you?”
Looking forward to your responses in the comments section below.
As for what I think…
While it’s tough to decide which one of the two Iron Survivor Challenge matches is on top, I’d say my top pick is the Iron Survivor Challenge matches.
If I’m pushed to choose, I may be slightly biased towards the men’s match, but both were impressive. Yes, I do fear that choosing Oba Femi as Eddy Thorpe’s replacement may backfire if he doesn’t defeat Trick Williams to grab the title at New Year’s Evil. However, this remains to be seen. The absence of a competitor like Hikuleo may not necessarily be a downside at this juncture, despite what those hoping for him as a surprise may think.
In terms of the women’s match, my thoughts somewhat mirror the above. Giulia should step up to defeat Roxanne Perez and wear the championship belt. But since I doubt that both titles will switch owners at the same show to kick-start the year, one of them must fail, at least. If Giulia does fall short again after this win, it would come as quite a disappointment. In retrospect, it might be better if the opportunity was given to Stephanie Vaquer or Sol Ruca – their loss wouldn’t come off as a big deal vs if Giulia was unable to overcome Perez.
Despite these reservations, the two matches were undoubtedly high-quality and offered the most entertaining parts of the show.
The downside for me was a close contest between the NXT Underground match and the NXT Championship match. I appreciate both Trick Williams and Ridge Holland but their match nearly put me to sleep – and not because I was tired. It felt too bland and I wasn’t drawn into the storyline. With nothing to really excite me or hold my interest, I found myself zoning out and merely waiting for the match to end.
