WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre shared some behind-the-scenes details of his Hell in a Cell match against CM Punk at WWE Bad Blood 2024, during his latest stint on the “WAFFLIN’” podcast. McIntyre spoke about getting hurt with a toolbox in the match.
You can find some highlighted parts of the podcast below:
On being struck by the toolbox: “Indeed, I was hit with a toolbox. After reeling from the hit, I realized how painful it was. The ref was trying to tell me something but my impaired hearing, coupled with my disoriented state, made it difficult to understand him. Then, I saw a stream of blood spray across the ring, like a geyser. Suddenly, I was bleeding profusely from my face. It was a shocking moment.”
On how the ref took control of the situation: “The ref didn’t need to do much. She was constantly in contact with the backstage crew and the doctor. Everyone was anxious and quickly communicating the situation. If needed, they could halt the match in light of the knowledge we now have about head injuries. I had to reassure them quickly that I was still cognizant despite the gory gash on my head. But, initially the bright lights felt like they were overpowering.”
On getting his act together: “One who has been through a knockout knows the signs that typically precede it. I managed to collect myself after the initial shock wore off and continued the match. But not before repeatedly communicating with the ref and the backstage crew about my capacity to go on. I also interacted with the doctor who was stationed outside the cage to verify my coherence. He held a needle intended to halt the blood flow. But how could he get it to me because I was within the cage at that time?”
In other news, WWE Superstar Chad Gable expressed joy for his masked wrestler alter-ego El Grande Americano who picked up a significant triumph in WWE RAW’s Monday episode. Paired with American Made, he overpowered the LWO in a six-man tag team match. Following the win, Gable posted about his joys for El Grande Americano on social media.
“It is hard for me to sum up the happiness I feel for him. After hearing his journey, knowing his past, realizing his feats, and his trials… it’s truly moving to watch someone fight back and stand firm in their beliefs! Charge ahead, @Americano_WWE!”
Really can’t overstate how happy I am for this guy.
