Following his triumphant win of the Cruiserweight Championship at WWE WrestleMania 34, Cedric Alexander drew the interest of renowned wrestler John Cena. Alexander, who won the title against Mustafa Ali, shared this interesting encounter in a recent episode of the “WrestleBinge” podcast.
Alexander stated, “There was a time when I was Cruiserweight Champion, and I was really running the house show loop a lot and stuff like that. Cena sat down and watched all of my matches and reminded me ’cause he actually sat down and watched the Cruiserweight title match with me and Mustafa. And I believe I was working Buddy Murphy in one of these house event live shows, and he really sat me down and said hey, you are a champ.”
He continued, “You gotta’, you gotta’ present yourself a certain way. You can’t, like, have people give them so much when you are the attraction in the match. So make sure you protect yourself as champion.”
During the match between Alexander and Ali, Cena was notable as an eager onlooker, as he anticipated The Undertaker responding to his challenge for a match. The Undertaker did not disappoint, accepting Cena’s challenge and consigning the 16-time WWE World Champion to defeat, thereby upholding his 24-2 record at the event.
Alexander’s reign as champion endured for 180 days, before it was cut short at the WWE Super Showdown. It was here that Buddy Murphy, in his homeland of Australia, claimed the champion’s title.
