In unfortunate news, Kevin Sullivan, popularly recognized as “The Taskmaster,” has left us at 74.

Earlier this May, Sullivan was involved in a disastrous accident which had severe implications on his health. Post the accident, Sullivan underwent medical procedures, suffered from numerous complications and struggled with independent functioning.

WWE released an official announcement concerning Sullivan’s unfortunate passing.

The statement reads:

“WWE is saddened to learn Kevin Sullivan has passed away at age 74.

Sullivan, a unique and influential character in sports-entertainment, had great success both inside and outside the ring, with his knack for eccentric ideas that challenged creative boundaries.

As a villain, Sullivan was a primary adversary for the legendary heroes of the ring, such as Dusty Rhodes, Hulk Hogan, and The Road Warriors. He was renowned for leading dangerous groups that included his fearsome Army of Darkness, the bullying Varsity Club, and the chaotic Dungeon of Doom, which brought Big Show into the wrestling world. The erstwhile “Taskmaster” also made major creative contributions behind the scenes for WCW.

WWE extends its condolences to Sullivan’s loved ones and fans.”

Paul “Triple” Levesque, WWE CCO, also expressed his sorrow at Sullivan’s passing.

Triple H’s tweet read: Kevin Sullivan had one of the most unique minds in the history of our industry, pushing creative boundaries and developing some of the most intriguing characters to step into the ring. He had an unwavering passion for what we do. My thoughts are with his family, friends & fans.
