In a recent episode of the popular podcast, “Everybody’s Got a Pod,” WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase Sr. shared his thoughts on the WrestleMania XI main event, where Lawrence Taylor and Bam Bam Bigelow headlined.

Check out a few of the key points DiBiase discussed:

DiBiase, discussing the decision to give Lawrence Taylor vs. Bam Bam Bigelow the main event spot over the WWE Championship, said: “You know what? I think it was a mistake, I do. And that’s where I would disagree. You know, it’s like paying a man handsomely to join and contribute to what you’re already doing. But because he’s already a well-known name in the NFL, it feels like admitting that the NFL carries more weight than professional wrestling. Personally, I would have positioned them next to last, leaving the championship match as the main event.”

DiBiase also touched on his feelings about card positions, stating: “Back in the regional territory days, you could get into a zone. Suppose you’re a ‘good guy’, a babyface? In that case, you could last for a while because the fans take a liking to you. But if you’re a villain or ‘heel’, particularly if you’re a significant figure, you get away with a lot of mishaps as you defeat the underdogs. But once you reach that main event and then have the first match with the ‘guy’ where, ‘Something unexpected happened,’ and you return, in three or four different [matches] and then, there’s the concluding cage match. After that, either you win and the babyface leaves, or you lose, and you leave the territory.

“Once Vince McMahon started reaching international audiences, it became necessary to continually present the babyface with new challengers. That’s why my run as a top heel lasted longer than most. I don’t recall all the things I did. But yes, I never relegated myself to being in the opening match or the second or the third match. Even if I’m not the main event, I’m the semi-main event or perhaps one position below that.”
