Recent guest on the “Busted Open Radio” podcast and reigning TNA Wrestling World Champion, Nic Nemeth, more commonly known as Dolph Ziggler, voiced his concerns with the hasty script modifications that were a regular practice in WWE under Vince McMahon’s guidance.
Here are some noteworthy points from the podcast conversation:
Commenting on coping with sudden script changes in WWE, Nemeth asserted, “Conversations would typically go like ‘What’s our plan for tonight’s show?’ and the response would often be ‘I heard half the show got torn up at 5:45.’”
Nemeth recounted instances when they had to create promotional videos from remote locations and broadcast them on Matt Cardona’s YouTube channel as they were unable to be present at ‘Raw’. He said, “In situations when we were unable to make ‘Raw’, we resorted to creating a video and uploading it on Cardona’s platform. I would apply my skills to make it appear as though there was more at stake in the match.”
As advice to fellow wrestlers who might be grappling with similar disappointments, he suggested, “In case you are not getting the opportunity to contribute to the storytelling part, try to compensate by making your performance more compelling. This might enhance the match and set the stage for a potential re-engagement later on.”
