Known wrestling legend Bret Hart regards his iconic match against Steve Austin at WrestleMania 13 as the epitome of storytelling in professional wrestling, hoping his younger counterparts will strive to outperform it. This renowned match is slated to become the first in history to become an “Immortal Moment” in the WWE Hall of Fame.
In a recent conversation with Complex, Hart expressed his thoughts on the match’s legacy and, in a way, challenged today’s wrestling talents. He remarked:
“Without meaning any disrespect to the budding wrestlers, I’m still to see a match with a better narrative than the one between Steve and I. I am hopeful, though, that there are wrestlers willing to take up the gauntlet and claim ‘I will outperform Bret Hart and Steve Austin’s match.’ I sincerely wish them good luck; I’ll be rooting for them and can’t wait to see that.”
Adding to his sentiments, he said: “I hold the belief that there is someone, somewhere who will eventually surpass it. Perhaps it’s just my ego speaking, but until now, I haven’t seen it happen.”
The ceremony for the WWE Hall of Fame is scheduled for Friday night and will be broadcast live on Peacock.
In another recent conversation with Casino.org, Kurt Angle another WWE Hall of Famer weighed in explicitly on the extension of WrestleMania to two nights.
Here are some of the standout points from the interview:
Commenting on the CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins match: “That’s shaping up to be a fantastic match, possibly the best of the night, potentially outshining Rhodes vs. Cena. I am leaning towards Roman Reigns as the victor, but I predict it to be one of the hallmark matches of WrestleMania.”
On the decision to stretch WrestleMania over two evenings: “Previously, fitting all of WrestleMania into a single night was a challenging task. I welcome the shift to a two-night set-up. This spells more revenue for the company, and although I acknowledge the fans’ enthusiasm, expecting them to sit through seven-hour long event is a bit excessive. It’s definitely more manageable for fans to watch in a 3.5-hour segment. A seven-hour stretch straight is quite a lot. While my match with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 19 is remembered fondly, the fans were evidently exhausted by the time we stepped onto the ring! Their reactions were slightly subdued, it was more of ‘And now for the next match!’ In my opinion, splitting the event into two night was indeed a smart move by WWE.”
