Professional wrestler Kenny Omega has announced his impending surgery to treat diverticulitis.
A revelation was made by Omega during his recent Twitch stream, stating that his surgery is scheduled for the nearer future.
Below are some noteworthy particulars from the stream:
Regarding his wellbeing: “I had to revisit the hospital recently. On a positive note, I was able to complete some pre-operative procedures. The scenario is bittersweet, having both pros and cons. The silver lining is that I am under the care of an exceptional doctor who is an authority in his field. His calendar is usually packed, making consultations and surgical sessions hard to secure. However, he has made a special exception for me. I anticipate my surgery in the imminent days. Regrettably, this means I will have to temporarily relocate. Despite it being a significant surgery, I am at utmost ease with this professional undertaking it. Of course, some concerns are normal before a major surgery, but I’m most confident with him handling it.
“The drawback is that this might signify the conclusion of an era, as this may be my last stream for a significant duration. The hope is that I’ll swiftly recover and can make on-screen appearances, but it’s uncertain if that will become a reality. I long to return to this platform to interact with everyone once my physical health permits, and this is in the immediate pipeline. Naturally, I’m a bit anxious, but I’m fortunate to have swift access to such an able surgeon. I believe luck is somewhat on my side here. I’m pretty optimistic and excited about it.”
On the contemplation of possible non-return: “There was an instance when I pondered if I could ever make a comeback. There was a real consideration that it might be a permanent departure. If the circumstances necessitated me announcing retirement, I would have done it contentedly acknowledging I’ve had a fulfilling career, enjoying every bit of it, meeting incredible people, and achieving feats I never imagined.”
On remaining hopeful: “However, now I have a renewed hope, thanks to my surgeon and his promising approach to my procedure, completely different from the previously suggested treatment in Orlando. It’s rekindled the faith in my possible return and maybe a performance as good as my pre-title run days. It echoes the early AEW days of Kenny Omega, albeit with past injuries’ consequences. I suspect my diverticulitis to trace back to those beginning days of AEW before my nose, hernia, shoulder, and knee issues.
I traced this discomfort back to the early part of 2020 when I began appearing for Triple A. I had been coping with this from the preliminary stage for about four years. When they discovered a herniation, I thought it was the source of my stomach pain. However, it wasn’t the sole problem. It’s got me contemplating a new Kenny Omega, a possible fresh start after my comeback. How this will shape up, I’m not sure, we’ll see how things progress. In an ideal world, I aim to return stronger than before. I’m not at my zenith; those days are past, but I want to bring a renewed version of myself to the professional wrestling platform. A lot of sameness is rampant, and it is unpalatable.”
We send our good thoughts to Omega for a swift and thorough recovery.
