In a recent episode of the “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” podcast, World Wrestling Entertainment star Kevin Owens opened up about his admiration for Owen Hart, the factors that drew him to Owen, among other things.

Below is a highlight reel from the podcast discussion:

Discussing the episode that turned him into an Owen Hart fan, Kevin Owens brought up his childhood battles against his much older brother. “My brother is a whole decade older than me, and as siblings often do, we squabbled quite a fair bit during our early years. Since he had a decade on me, he was considerably stronger and often came out on top. This state of affairs led to some friction and resentment, unsurprisingly. Things are different now, and I can say with certainty that I love him,” said Owens.

When he talked about why he found himself drawn to Owen Hart, Owens reflected, “During my childhood, I consumed wrestling content avidly. One memorable Royal Rumble event featured Bret Hart wrestling Diesel. In an attempt to gain an unfair advantage, Bret wrapped Diesel’s legs in camera cords, which by all accounts is cheating. The dishonesty of this move disappointed me. Then Owen appeared, set on stopping Bret from cheating further. I thought to myself, ‘That’s the way to go. He is doing the right thing by trying to stop his older brother’s cheating antics.’ I found myself identifying with Owen as he fought his older brother, much like I did.”

Expanding on the relatability of this dynamic, Owens explained, “This resemblance to the relationship I had with my elder brother originally made me a fan of Owen. Obviously, his skill set as a wrestler, charisma and magnetic performances also played a significant part.”
