On a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray questioned whether fans should get behind Cody Rhodes if he doesn’t dethrone Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL.

Rhodes failed to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship from Reigns last year at WrestleMania 39.

Ray said,You just don’t know that if you get to [WrestleMania] 40, and Cody loses, if you take all of the wind out of the fan bases’ sails, where if he loses, why do I still have faith? Why should I still care? Yeah, if he gets screwed over, it’s one thing. But are you going off the air on WrestleMania with Roman going over again? There’s enough of the backlash out there with Roman only working or defending the championship 11 times last year? Are we to expect people to stay that invested in a champion that is hardly seen, despite the fact that we understand that he’s an attraction and he’s a big deal? I think people would be like ‘Screw you, and your big deal.’”

Earlier this week, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made a surprise return to WWE on the ‘Day 1’ episode of RAW, teasing his long-awaited dream match with Reigns at WrestleMania 40.

Rhodes previously attempted to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship from Reigns at WrestleMania 39 but was unsuccessful.

Bully Ray expressed concerns about the potential impact on the fan base if Rhodes were to lose again. He questioned whether fans would still have faith in Rhodes and why they should continue to care if he is unable to defeat Reigns. Ray also highlighted the backlash against Reigns, who only defended the championship 11 times last year despite being a major attraction. He speculated that fans might become disinterested in a champion who is rarely seen and may reject the idea of Reigns continuing to dominate.

In a surprising turn of events, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made a comeback to WWE on the ‘Day 1′ episode of RAW. This appearance sparked speculation about a long-awaited dream match between Johnson and Reigns at WrestleMania 40.
