Recently, behind the scenes happenings at AEW resulted in disciplinary measures being taken against one of their homegrown talents, Britt Baker. She found herself in hot water following an incident involving herself and fellow AEW star, MJF.
MJF, who returned into the limelight at AEW Double Or Nothing 2024, has seized every opportunity to assert his dominance in the AEW narratives. He has effectively turned into a notorious heel, even going on to secure the American Title.
Concurrently, after her comeback at the AEW X NJPW: Forbidden Door 2024 event, Baker has been locked in a gripping feud with Mercedes Mone. Their face-off has been slated for All In 2024, set to take place later this month.
An interesting twist in this tale is the recent addition to the AEW roster, Alicia Atout, who also happens to be MJF’s partner. She has joined the franchise as an on-screen talent.
The widely respected Wrestling Observer Newsletter has unveiled that the company’s disciplinary committee has suspended Baker for a span of one to two weeks and enforced a fine on her.
The root cause of this controversy goes back to the July 17th airing of AEW Dynamite; Baker reportedly uttered a remark that concerned MJF and was subsequently overheard by Atout.
An internal inquiry was kicked off in the aftermath, with Human Resources connecting with the concerned individuals in the following week. The disciplinary committee eventually decided that disciplinary action towards Baker was merited.
Whether AEW’s President, Tony Khan, actively participated in the AEW inquest remains a gray area, with the organization striving to maintain confidentiality regarding the issue.
Notably, majority of the involved people leaned towards empathizing with Baker.
According to sources, AEW’s management decision is believed to be a response to previously unaddressed grievances, which spurred them to form a dedicated board to swiftly tackle such controversies in the future.
