WWE Reportedly Interested In Buying Dragon Gate
Following on from last week’s report regarding WWE’s attempt to purchase Stardom, it seems that Dragon Gate is also in Stamford’s crosshairs as a potential candidate for the genesis of NXT Japan. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that WWE reached out to the company several months ago about a possible acquisition. This was likely the male half of the equation in WWE’s NXT Japan plans.
As previously reported, the Stardom plan fell through due to WWE’s lack of planning regarding Stardom. The organization would likely have had to change their entire structure and cancel their 100-125 yearly house show events, all of which proved to be too much for Stardom CEO Hiroshi “Rossy” Ogawa. The company ultimately sold to the parent company of New Japan, where they’ll be run as an independent entity.
