Women Get Equal Billing In WWE 2K20
Wrestling fans should be excited for WWE 2K20 because the women’s division is finally getting the respect they deserve in the video game world. For the first time ever, fans will be able to play as a central female character in the WWE video game series. Players will be able to control a female protagonist in MyCAREER mode, and this year’s game also puts WWE’s Four Horsewomen front and center in the brand new 2K Showcase mode. Additionally, fans can look forward to playing the popular Mixed Match Challenge, and see new seasonal content that will provide year-round updates and play.
Becky Lynch and Roman Reigns share the cover of WWE 2K20, and it serves as a small portion of a loaded lineup when it comes to the WWE women’s role in this year’s game. The WWE’s Four Horsewomen (Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks and Bayley) take center stage in this 2K Showcase: The Women’s Evolution. Fans will get a chance to relive history as they play through key moments in each of their respective careers, starting back in NXT all the way up to the biggest moment in WWE women’s history – main eventing WrestleMania 35.
Becky, Bayley, Charlotte and Sasha are along for the ride, telling the story in their own words in the form of exclusive live action footage that is new to this year’s release. 2K Showcase includes 15 playable classic matches from the four women’s careers, with many of them being with or against each other, including the all-time great in Bayley versus Sasha Banks from NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn. Other key matches in this year’s game include Charlotte vs. Natalya at the inaugural NXT TakeOver, Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks at WrestleMania 32, and Becky Lynch and Charlotte’s match-of-the-year candidate at WWE Evolution.
Players will not only get access to brand new footage, but they will be able to unlock characters, attire parts, titles, and more as they progress throughout the game. As much as the 2K Showcase is full of ‘firsts’ for the women, there are plenty of other features that keep them from and center.
Chyna has been confirmed as part of the roster, and WWE 2K20 marks the first time since WWF SmackDown 2: Know Your Role on PlayStation that she’s been included in the game. (Chyna will be available at launch in the Deluxe and Collector’s Editions of the game) Nikki Cross and Mandy Rose will also be a focus, as they have their own spooky-themed story tower modes in the WWE 2K20: Bump in the Night pre-order DLC pack. The “Nowhere to Run” Tower features “Twisted” Nikki Cross, who looks to play a game with other Superstars, while “Nowhere to Hide” features “Survivor” Mandy Rose attempting to put an end to Nikki Cross’ games. Both women will also have playable horror-themed characters as part of the Bump in the Night DLC.
WWE 2K20 is available now for pre-order and is currently scheduled for worldwide release on October 22, 2019, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
