During the NJPW Resurgence 2023 event, Willow Nightingale triumphed against Mercedes Mone, thereby claiming the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship. The match led to Mone’s injury and subsequently her last bout.
The two are set to have a rematch at the 2024 Double Or Nothing event where Nightingale will defend the TBS Championship against Mone.
Recently, in a conversation with Chris Mueller for Bleacher Report, Nightingale shared her thoughts about the upcoming match. She stated,
“The manner in which I’d surpass [my first victory] would be to emerge as the conquering hero and leave no room for anyone to wonder if the only path to my victory against Mercedes is her injury in the battleground. It’s a double-edged sword, in a way. Mercedes hasn’t stepped into the wrestling ring for an entire year. In this period, I’ve discovered my strong suits as an artist, so she has the opportunity to study them and decipher my potential weaknesses. Even though I have a plethora of matches she can observe, I remain ignorant about the components she has been nurturing during her recovery period. My game plan relies solely on past instances and I am positive about its efficacy, but one can only wish that there aren’t any unforeseen elements that catch me off guard.”
