CM Punk remains on the free agent market following his AEW release due to a backstage altercation with Jack Perry at the All In 2023 pay-per-view event. WWE is reportedly not interested in bringing him back.

However, that has not stopped rumors of Punk returning at Survivor Series later this month in Chicago from running wild.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE creative hasn’t heard anything about a CM Punk return. He wrote,

“Those in creative have not been told of anything involving him and those who would normally be in the know about these things, including on the big surprises like Cody Rhodes stuff before anyone else, don’t know anything. That doesn’t mean he’s not coming, just the back stories regarding his coming aren’t accurate. I was told weeks ago that it was a “no,” just like the other times talks had been opened through his reps. But like any “no” circumstances could change it. If they feel they need a business jolt, they’ve got it in their back pocket. If they smell blood on the AEW carcass, the Punk move on television can be their shark response. If they believe there is a fan groundswell for it, they could give it a shot. There were reports of chants for Punk at both the Saudi Arabia show and on the Raw show in Wilkes-Barre on 11/6. We had been privately told that fan response would be something that could change things from a negative, particularly not wanting for the crowd to loudly want him and not have it be delivered. We were also given the indication again this week that there’s nothing to the rumors, the feeling was a negative but fan response can change that and nothing is ever not ever.”

CM Punk, the former WWE and AEW wrestler, has been making headlines recently with rumors of a potential return to the wrestling world. Despite his release from AEW following a backstage altercation with Jack Perry, fans are speculating that Punk may make a surprise appearance at Survivor Series later this month in his hometown of Chicago. However, according to Dave Meltzer’s report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE creative has not been informed of any plans involving CM Punk.

Meltzer stated that those in WWE creative have not heard anything about a potential CM Punk return. He also mentioned that even those who are usually aware of big surprises, such as Cody Rhodes’ return, are unaware of any plans involving Punk. This doesn’t necessarily mean that Punk won’t return, but it suggests that the rumors circulating about his comeback may not be accurate.

Meltzer further explained that he was told weeks ago that a CM Punk return was unlikely, similar to previous times when talks had been opened through Punk’s representatives. However, circumstances can change, and if WWE feels the need for a business boost or sees an opportunity to capitalize on AEW’s success, they may consider bringing Punk back. Fan response could also play a significant role in WWE’s decision-making process. If there is a groundswell of support for Punk’s return, WWE might be more inclined to give it a shot.

Reports of fans chanting for Punk at recent events, including the Saudi Arabia show and a Raw show in Wilkes-Barre, indicate that there is still a strong fan base eager to see him back in the ring. WWE is aware of this fan demand, and if it continues to grow, it could potentially sway their decision.

While the rumors of CM Punk’s return are exciting for wrestling fans, it’s important to remember that nothing is set in stone. WWE has not confirmed any plans involving Punk, and until they do, it remains speculation. In conclusion, the possibility of CM Punk returning to the wrestling world has sparked excitement among fans. However, WWE creative has not been informed of any plans involving Punk, according to Dave Meltzer. The decision ultimately rests with WWE, and fan response could play a significant role in influencing their decision. Until then, fans will have to wait and see if CM Punk will make a comeback in the near future.
