CM Punk remains on the free agent market following his AEW release due to a backstage altercation with Jack Perry at All In 2023. WWE is reportedly not interested in bringing him back.

However, that has not stopped rumors of him returning at Survivor Series later this month in Chicago from running wild.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE creative hasn’t heard anything about a Punk return.

“Those in creative have not been told of anything involving him and those who would normally be in the know about these things, including on the big surprises like Cody Rhodes stuff before anyone else, don’t know anything. That doesn’t mean he’s not coming, just the back stories regarding his coming aren’t accurate. I was told weeks ago that it was a “no,” just like the other times talks had been opened through his reps. But like any “no” circumstances could change it. If they feel they need a business jolt, they’ve got it in their back pocket. If they smell blood on the AEW carcass, the Punk move on television can be their shark response. If they believe there is a fan groundswell for it, they could give it a shot. There were reports of chants for Punk at both the Saudi Arabia show and on the Raw show in Wilkes-Barre on 11/6. We had been privately told that fan response would be something that could change things from a negative, particularly not wanting for the crowd to loudly want him and not have it be delivered. We were also given the indication again this week that there’s nothing to the rumors, the feeling was a negative but fan response can change that and nothing is ever not ever,” Meltzer wrote.

CM Punk, the former WWE and AEW wrestler, remains a hot topic in the wrestling world. After his release from AEW due to a backstage altercation with Jack Perry at All In 2023, rumors have been circulating about his potential return to the ring. However, according to Dave Meltzer’s report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE creative has not heard anything about a Punk return.

Meltzer stated that those in creative have not been informed about any plans involving CM Punk. Even those who are usually aware of big surprises, such as Cody Rhodes’ return, are unaware of any developments regarding Punk. This doesn’t necessarily mean that he won’t return, but it suggests that the rumors about his comeback may not be accurate.

Meltzer mentioned that he was told weeks ago that a Punk return was a “no,” similar to previous instances when talks had been opened through his representatives. However, circumstances can change, and if WWE feels the need for a business boost or sees an opportunity to capitalize on the popularity of AEW, they might consider bringing Punk back. Fan response could also play a significant role in influencing WWE’s decision.

There have been reports of chants for Punk at recent WWE events, including the Saudi Arabia show and the Raw show in Wilkes-Barre. The crowd’s desire for Punk’s return could potentially sway WWE’s stance on the matter. Meltzer emphasized that fan response has the power to change things and that nothing is ever set in stone.
