Triple H recently appeared on WWE’s The Bump, and the timing of his comments about his return to in-ring action in 2016 are uncanny. “The Game” revealed that Vince McMahon calls him his “in case of emergency guy.” Of course, WWE is currently facing an emergency, as WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has tested positive for COVID-19.
“It was completely out of the blue, and completely unplanned in a way, you know, it was a moment in time with injuries and everything else that was happening where I had sorta gotten to a place in my career where Vince would joke I’m, ‘In case of emergency, break glass’ you know,” said Triple H. “I’m sitting on the wall with my trunks on, he was, ‘In case of emergency, we’re breaking the glass and here’s what we’re gonna do,’ and I was like,’Oh my God.”
Triple H also reflected on how difficult it can be to step back in the ring after a lengthy hiatus.
“I don’t believe I’ve ever done anything harder in my career than have moments where you don’t wrestle for an entire year or longer, or a long, long period of time like that,” said Triple H. “And then, you come out and it’s just like, ‘Okay, go do this at the highest level. Try to continue to add to the stuff that you’ve done without letting yourself down or anybody else down.’ That is the most difficult challenge I’ve ever faced, and having those moments in time where you’re doing this once a year, the pressure is immense.”
