During a recent episode of the “What Happened When” podcast, Tony Schiavone, the AEW broadcaster, shared his experience of providing commentary alongside Davey Boy Smith and Steven Regal for a WCW UK pay-per-view event.

Schiavone also touched upon the upcoming AEW Dynasty 2025 pay-per-view occasion.

A few excerpts from the podcast are as follows:

Speaking on the topic of AEW Dynasty, Schiavone said, “This is poised to be a significant event for AEW. The energy of the crowd in Philadelphia is always high. It’s a city I’ve visited repeatedly for wrestling matches. Yes, we worked in the old Philadelphia Civic Center and the old Spectrum during WCW’s heyday. These days, our matches take place at Temple University’s Liacouras Center. The venue suits us perfectly, and I’m eagerly anticipating this card. With good match-ups, we never hold back and I anticipate many more for this event.”

While recalling his experience of commentating with Davey Boy Smith and Steven Regal for the WCW UK PPV, he stated, “Firstly, Davey Boy Smith was not eager to take on the task. However, even though he admitted not wanting to do it, he did and performed remarkably well. It’s easy to tell when someone isn’t keen about a task because it reflects in their work, but Davey turned in an excellent performance.”

He continued, “Contrarily, Lord Steven Regal was keen to learn and improve as well as to establish himself as an announcer. Regal has expressed gratitude to me for the influence I had on his career, referring specifically to the time we worked together. We frequently collaborated on camera, and that helped consolidate a robust friendship that still exists today. I hold immense respect for Lord Steven Regal, or William Regal as he is now known.”
