During the post-AEW Revolution 2024 media scrum, AEW President Tony Khan stated that Kenny Omega would not return in time for AEW’s upcoming tour of Canada.
The shows in Winnipeg are scheduled for May, and Omega was previously advertised.
Omega has been out of action after being diagnosed with diverticulitis.
Khan also weighed in on Kyle O’Reilly’s return to AEW at Revolution 2024.
You can check out some highlights from the media scrum below:
On Kenny Omega returning by May: “I don’t think it would be fair at all to create the expectation that Kenny Omega would be cleared by then. I really appreciate the question. I’m very optimistic Kenny will be coming back, but I don’t know the exact date. I think that’s an aggressive timetable. But absolutely, Kenny is one of AEW’s great stars and we can’t wait to have him back as soon as possible. I don’t think it would be fair to create the expectation he would be cleared by then though.”
On Kyle O’Reilly being back in AEW: “Kyle O’Reilly is so amazing to have him back in AEW. I’m a huge fan of Kyle’s. People forget that he went on this incredible run of matches. He really, before he got injured, was on an amazing run. He challenged Jon Moxley for the championship, he won the Casino Battle Royale on Dynamite and I thought his match against Mox was one of the best matches of the year in 2022. It was phenomenal. And the run he had leading up to that, you know, he won clean matches against Rey Fenix, Darby Allin, Jungle Boy, a lot of top stars on the roster to then go into that Casino Battle Royale and just phenomenal wrestling at the highest level in his tremendous career. It was actually here in the Greensboro Coliseum in 2021 where Kyle O’Reilly first arrived in AEW and Orange Cassidy was involved in that match and that moment too. Very fitting to have Kyle O’Reilly and of course we saw the Undisputed Kingdom out there, there’s a lot of history, we have a new International Champion Roderick Strong…quite a moment, Kyle O’Reilly coming back and being here in the Greensboro Coliseum where he first arrived in AEW years ago.”
In a recent post-AEW Revolution 2024 media scrum, AEW President Tony Khan provided updates on the status of two prominent wrestlers in the company. Khan revealed that Kenny Omega would not be returning in time for AEW’s upcoming tour of Canada, while also expressing his excitement about Kyle O’Reilly’s return to AEW.
Khan addressed the issue of Kenny Omega’s return, stating that it would not be fair to create the expectation that Omega would be cleared to compete by May. Omega has been sidelined due to diverticulitis, a condition that requires proper treatment and recovery time. While Khan expressed optimism about Omega’s eventual return, he emphasized that the exact date is uncertain and that it would be an aggressive timetable to expect him back by May. Khan acknowledged Omega’s status as one of AEW’s great stars and expressed the company’s eagerness to have him back as soon as possible.
On the other hand, Khan spoke highly of Kyle O’Reilly’s return to AEW at Revolution 2024. He praised O’Reilly’s talent and reminded fans of his impressive run of matches before his injury. O’Reilly had challenged Jon Moxley for the championship, won the Casino Battle Royale on Dynamite, and had a highly acclaimed match against Moxley in 2022. Khan described O’Reilly’s performance as phenomenal and highlighted his victories against top stars like Rey Fenix, Darby Allin, and Jungle Boy. He also mentioned that O’Reilly’s first arrival in AEW occurred at the Greensboro Coliseum in 2021, making his return to the same venue even more significant. Khan expressed his admiration for O’Reilly and the impact he has had on AEW.
The media scrum provided fans with insights into the current status of two popular wrestlers in AEW. While Kenny Omega’s return may not be imminent, AEW remains hopeful for his recovery and eagerly anticipates his comeback. On the other hand, Kyle O’Reilly’s return has generated excitement among fans and AEW officials alike, as they recognize his talent and the contributions he has made to the company. With these updates, AEW fans can look forward to future developments and the return of these two dynamic performers.
