In the WWE locker room, “Wrestler’s Court” served as an alternative to poker and dominos as a fun way at getting “all the boys involved” with The Undertaker serving as the honorable hand of justice.
On the Broken Skull Sessions with Steve Austin, Taker talked his time serving in the respected role as locker room magistrate and one case that came across his desk happened to involve Teddy Long selling pills of Viagra to the wrestlers – pills that he allegedly received for free.
“Teddy Long has given his full approval to tell this story, with Mae Young involved,” Austin disclaims, before letting Taker take over the storytelling.
UNDERTAKER: “So Teddy comes into a stash of blue diamonds. I guess he had more on them that he would able to use and decided to start selling him to the boys. Now I’m pretty sure that Teddy didn’t pay for them, but he was sure selling them. He was sure selling them to the boys and then it came out that he got them for nothing and I want to say it was Bradshaw who discovered all that and he was the one that brought up the charges…” (“He and his legal team,” Austin added) “He went on trial for selling Viagra to the boys, free Viagra that he got.”
AUSTIN: “So why does that ring him up on charges? Cause the man wanted to make a profit?”
UNDERTAKER: “Well the man wanted to make a profit, but c’mon now. You got lucky and you scored all this, don’t try to make a profit on your boy! Especially, you’re not taking any bumps, brother! I mean c’mon. So he got brought up on charges…”
AUSTIN: “But I understand Mae Young was brought up on this?”
UNDERTAKER: “Oh, Mae Young! My goodness! She was a witness. Mae Young was a witness!”
AUSTIN: “A witness? To what? Pray tell!”
UNDERTAKER: “I’m not quite sure why Mae Young was brought as a witness, but she was more upset with the fact that, ‘I don’t know why all you young guys need all that Niagra!’ That’s what she called it. ‘Why you need that Niagra?’ (Laughs) ‘I’m just saying, you guys should be ready to go without all that Niagra!’ ‘No, Mae, it’s Viagra.’ ‘What? No! Niagra! You guys are young! You shouldn’t need all that!’ I was like, ‘Oh, good Lord, this is bad.’ But yeah, Mae Young was a witness for the prosecution on why on Earth all these boys need to dial all that Niagra.’”
AUSTIN: “So how did it go down?”
UNDERTAKER: “Found guilty. Guilty as charged.”
AUSTIN: “Oh, God dang it. God dang it. You talk about a tough crowd? You get around the boys, it’s a tough crowd.”
UNDERTAKER: “Absolutely.” Taker said. “Unless you were on trial, everybody loved Wrestler’s Court.”
AUSTIN: “Ohh yeah. And it could be stressful amongst embarrassing, but it was a morale lifter, and when you’re strung out on the road, you speak to it.”
UNDERTAKER: “Yeah, no absolutely, but it served it’s purpose in the sense that it was a way to handle a situation before a situation got out of control, right? It was a way of saying, ‘OK, your peers know you’re screwing up here. You need to change what you’re doing and get on the same page with everybody else before the office had to get involved in whatever it was you’re doing.’ It was a way for the boys to kind of gently let you know—and sometimes not so gently, ‘You’re screwing up here. You need to check yourself and re-evaluate what you’re doing,’ you know? So it served it’s purpose in that sense, like, ‘We’re going to make light of this, but make note what we’re trying to tell you here.’”
AUSTIN: “Right. Sometimes it’s ‘rib on the square’ and sometimes it’s ‘come to Jesus’ and sometimes ‘it’s here’s what’s up.’ Sometimes pure entertainment. Teddy was pure entertainment. Cause that’s what some of them were.”
