Jon Moxley boasts of a deep-rooted relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling, having made significant appearances in the promotion throughout his career.

Earlier this year at the NJPW event, ‘Windy City Riot’, Moxley came out victorious, winning the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship by overpowering Tetsuya Naito. Following that victory, Moxley managed to retain the IWGP World Heavyweight belt on multiple occasions. However, in their rematch at AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2024, he lost the title to the Japanese competitor.

As per the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Moxley earned the title of IWGP World Heavyweight Champion courtesy of a joint decision by AEW President Tony Khan and NJPW, allowing two significant shifts in the championships on American soil.

The strategic liaison between NJPW and AEW paved the way for Moxley’s remarkable achievement, making him the first wrestler to simultaneously hold the AEW, IWGP, and WWE World Championships.
