The historically difficult relationship between AAA and CMLL, which often inhibited their talents from featuring in concurrent shows, is now on the mend. This challenging relationship also impacted CMLL’s associates, inhibiting wrestlers such as Lucha Bros and RUSH from performing in earlier AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view programs.
However, a recent positive development saw wrestlers including Rey Fenix, RUSH, and other CMLL talents Rugido, Magnus, Esfinge, and Volador Jr., take part in the latest episode of AEW Dynamite. Dave Meltzer, speaking in the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, disclosed that AAA and CMLL have mended their squabbles, allowing AAA talents to emerge in Forbidden Door events. CMLL’s resolution was influenced by financial considerations and the chance for extra exposure.
Meltzer stated, “Tony Khan said that they have pretty much worked it out. So, that means that Forbidden Door that RUSH and Fenix and all these guys can appear on it. Money talks, I guess. Tony Khan has been an excellent partner for New Japan, he’s making efforts to be a good partner for CMLL and, it seems, CMLL has relaxed a bit. As they are working on expanding their talents in the US. It’s more beneficial for them. CMLL talents are increasingly getting opportunities in the US. There’s even chatter surrounding CMLL trying to host shows in the US. That remains to be seen, I don’t believe they’ll go at it alone but let’s wait and see.”
