Tama Tonga is no longer the NEVER Openweight Champion according to a recent update on the NJPW website.
Instead of Tonga, EVIL is listed as the reigning NEVER Openweight Champion.
The change was made on both the Japanese and American websites.
Taking to Twitter, EVIL announced that he was the new champion and Tonga was fired.
He wrote, “Tama’s profile has been properly deleted. It’s a company decision that Tama is already fired. I don’t have to come to the Nagoya event either. Hahaha!”
Tonga and EVIL were set for a match on January 20 at NJPW ‘The New Beginning’ in Nagoya.
It’s unknown whether the change is legitimate or part of an angle.
Tonga had previously noted that January would be his final month in NJPW.
ちゃんとタマのプロフィールは削除になってんな。タマがもうクビだってことは会社としての決定事項だな。名古屋の試合も来なくて良いぞ。ハッハッハ! pic.twitter.com/MfaImoEiyJ
