ROH is holding a 16-women tournament to crown the inaugural ROH Women’s World Champion and the first entrant has been revealed as Sumie Sakai.

The tournament kicks off April 24 and the winner replaces the Women of Honor title that has been around the past few years. Sakai was the first woman to hold that Women of Honor title after winning a 16-woman tournament that saw her defeat the likes of Hana Kimura, Kagetsu, Tenille Dashwood, and Kelly Klein. She would hold the belt for 251 days before eventually dropping the title to Kelly Klein.

The first round will be held at the Quest For Gold show in Philadelphia, PA. There have been no additional entrants announced as of this writing. The only known information ROH released was that women from ‘all over the world’ will compete, including women that have never wrestled for ROH before.

Sumie Sakai has been announced as the first competitor in the upcoming 16-woman tournament to crown the inaugural ROH Women’s World Champion. Sakai was the first and longest-reigning holder of the old Women of Honor Title.
