Spike Dudley recently appeared on The Chris Van Vliet Show and discussed several topics, ranging from how he first signed with ECW to whether he regrets any of the crazy bumps he’s taken. Here are some highlights:
On not regretting one particular bump more than any other:
Dudley: “No, no, because I’ll be honest, I know you can put together the little clips of all my highlights and stuff, I was actually pretty careful, in a lot of ways. I mean, I didn’t do anything I didn’t think I was capable of walking away from. One thing that, a lot of people, they don’t grasp it or they don’t see it, is that I was 140 pounds in there with 250-300 pound guys, they could be very careful, they could place me very well. And I did have a certain resiliency, I could take a beating, I mean, but you know, I’ve got my bumps and bruises but nothing that’s…there’s guys that are a lot worse off than I am.”
On his first balcony jump:
Dudley: “I never felt pressured to do something stupid. I will say, the one time, my first balcony jump, which was with New Jack at Asbury Park, we did the double fall, that was the first time I jumped off something other than the ring. And I was scared out of my gourd, like it was…it was crazy. Plus, the atmosphere was crazy. I mean, that double jump was, I just wanna say nuts. But it was the first time I’d ever done anything like that. Now, I didn’t say no, I thought I could pull it off, but that one I was nervous about. I really was. But I fell off, I landed on Bubba’s fat belly and it was no problem.”
On making Brock Lesnar look like even more of a monster in the ring:
Dudley: “Well, that’s one that I kinda do feel bad on because the original plan on that was when he comes on and does it, he’s supposed to powerbomb me five times. And after the third one, I actually tapped out. I went, ‘Okay, Brock, I’ve had enough.’ If you really look (at the video,) you might see it. I think, if you watch the full clip of it, he goes down, after the third one he goes down for the fourth one, like he’s gonna do it, and then he releases me, and so we’re in there and I just said, ‘Okay, I’ve had it, I’m done, I’ve had enough.'”
