Former WWE superstar Sonya Deville recently featured on “The Ariel Helwani Show” and revealed some fascinating information about her WWE SummerSlam match against Mandy Rose. Deville discussed why the match’s stipulation was changed from a Hair vs. Hair match to a Loser Leaves Town match, among other topics.

Here are a few notable statements from the podcast:

When asked about the unexpected end to her SummerSlam match with Mandy Rose, Deville stated: “After the attempted kidnapping incident at my house, I was told to take some time off. But I opposed the idea. The turnaround came when we decided to alter the conclusion of my match with Mandy at SummerSlam. It was originally planned as a hair vs. hair match which would’ve resulted in me shaving my head, paving the way for a significant shift in my character.”

When questioned whether she was okay with the idea of having her head shaved, Deville expressed her initial reservations which eventually transformed into acceptance, adding “Once the incidence occurred at my house and I had to testify in court, we collectively realized that the timing wasn’t right for this move.”

Deville gave an instance of how she unintentionally interrupted a production meeting going on with around 30-40 writers, producers, and Vince McMahon among others. Upon being called in, she emphasized her feelings about not allowing the incident at her home to dictate her career and insisted that she will, without fail, be wrestling at SummerSlam.

On the topic of altering the Hair vs. Hair match to a Loser Leaves Town match, she said: “Mandy and I came up with this interesting turn, Loser Leaves Town, maintaining the drama. After initially planning for me to lose and return in a surprising manner, the plans were changed and resulted in Mandy losing.” Upon Mandy’s disappointment and insistence, the decision was changed back, with Deville’s consent, causing her to take a break afterwards.
