The final episode of WWE SmackDown aired on September 6th on the FOX network. This finale sets the stage for the forthcoming premiere episode on the USA Network next week.
Various plot developments and matches were showcased during the episode. Notably, a segment placing Cody Rhodes in a position to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Solo Sikoa. This showdown will take place within the confines of a steel cage next week.
Significant to last night’s episode of WWE SmackDown was the comeback of Giovanni Vinci.
Leading up to Vinci’s return, WWE had been creating anticipation through several vignettes. Living up to the hype, the former Imperium member made quite an entrance even while Apollo Crews, his opponent, was ready in the ring. As Vinci began to remove his attire for the match, the bell rang unexpectedly while Vinci’s back was turned towards Apollo.
Capitalizing on the opportunity, Crews quickly claimed victory with a roll-up pinfall maneuver.
However, there is news from WrestleVotes that some important figures within WWE Creative strongly disagreed with the handling of the match.
Quoting the WrestleVotes tweet, “I’m told there are a few “key” figures within creative that absolutely hated the direction on the Giovanni Vinci angle tonight. #SmackDown”.
