Ric Flair: Randy Orton Has Always Been Great, But This Might Be His Greatest Run Yet

Ric Flair says Randy Orton is performing at an unprecedented level right now.

Flair recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard while promoting his new Celebrity Slots gaming app. Flair had been appearing on WWE TV in Randy Orton‘s corner this summer and he took some time to praise Orton’s ability to stay on top throughout his WWE career as well as how good he is right now.

“He’s great, emphasis on the word great. Over the course of your career, and Randy’s been doing this 18 years now, and it doesn’t seem possible since he was so young when he came in. You’re going to have guys that you work with that you’re going to have phenomenal matches with, you’ll have matches with guys where the chemistry is not quite as good,” Flair said, “but Randy is at that level of his career and his mindset is that good, he’s at a good place in his life personally; he’s just on fire.”

Flair and Orton’s relationship began in WWE as they were both members of the Evolution stable, but they’ve maintained a friendship over the years as well. Flair recently returned to WWE in Orton’s corner and not only got a chance to work with him on-air but also got a closer look at the level Orton is performing right now.

“He has stepped out in front of the pack. He has always been great, but I feel like this might be his greatest time. I mean I can remember watching him and Seth Rollins in San Jose when Seth first came along and if that match would have been at night rather than daylight, that might have been the best match at Mania that year. He never ceases to amaze me, he can do anything. He’s healthy now,” Flair said. “He had some shoulder issues but he’s healthy and strong. I mean he looks like a million bucks and he in the ring his performance is a million bucks so you can’t ask for any more than that. And my saying whether you like it or don’t like it you gotta learn to love it, man, ’cause Randy, that’s where he’s at right now.”

Flair added:

“It’s not just his in-ring performance, his interviews are just—God, he’s just killing it on the mic. A totally different style than ‘Ric Flair’ where you know I have my way of bragging, but his delivery and turning up the volume and turning it down, the facials, looking at the camera, that’s a gift and he’s got it. I feel like he is so comfortable and so confident right now that anything they give him he’ll make the best,” Flair said. “I look for him and McIntyre to tear it down.”
