During a recent interview on Stephanie McMahon’s program, ‘Stephanie’s Places’, Rhea Ripley discussed almost having a WWE tryout when she was only 17 years old. Ripley shared how she was considered for a tryout in the early part of the 21st century, but once the WWE realized she was not 18, the opportunity was withdrawn. Still, she managed to enter the company in 2017.

Take a look at some of the main talking points from the show:

Ripley discussed her almost tryout experience at 17, saying: “They held tryouts. It seems that some people in Australia were asked who they should consider, and my name was mentioned by someone. So, I got a tryout at 17, but then they realized that I was only 17 years old and said they might have to try again when I was 21. I decided to take a chance on myself in every way possible. I even traveled to Japan when I was 17 for three months”.

On the topic of ultimately joining the WWE, Rhea added: “When I turned 20, the WWE returned to Australia. They contacted me, saying “We know we said 21, but we are here now, and we would like you to join us’. I remember giving my mom a call, and she was over the moon, expressing that my hard work was finally paying off. She said, ‘All those hours I spent waiting for you in the parking lot are finally meaningful.’ [laughs]”.
