Lucha Libre legend and wrestling world mourns with the passing of famed Rey Misterio Sr., born as Miguel Ángel López Días, at 69. A prominent figure in the arena, Misterio Sr., also happened to be an uncle to Rey Mysterio, a name no stranger in the WWE Hall of Fame.
Confirmation of his demise on December 20 was announced through a tweet from the Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide Twitter account expressing their heartfelt condolences.
The tweet translated from Spanish states, “We regret the sensitive death of Miguel Ángel López Días, known as Rey Mysterio Sr. We send our most sincere condolences to his loved ones and we raise our prayers to heaven for his eternal rest.”
Originally aspiring to be a boxer, Misterio Sr. found his true passion in wrestling, dominating the sport from 1972 to 2009. He notably appeared at the WCW Starrcade 1990 where he teamed up with Konnan.
In addition to such memorable appearances, Misterio Sr. shared the ring with several wrestling icons such as his son, El Hijo del Rey Misterio, the distinguished luchador El Dandy, and his nephew, WWE’s Mysterio.
