At AEW Worlds End 2023, MJF had his AEW World Championship title taken away by Samoa Joe. Later, the esteemed championship was won by Swerve Strickland from Joe at AEW Dynasty 2024.
In an episode of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, MJF, who resumed his AEW appearances in May, articulated his decision to refrain from pursuing the AEW World Title in the current period.
MJF argued, “Swerve Strickland is completely on fire right now. He’s operating on a different level. Considering that he’s at full strength while I’m still in recovery from a shoulder injury, do you reckon it’s a sensible idea to challenge him, Tommy? Of course not.”
He furthered, “I’m a strategist. I know when to make my moves. I will be blunt – everyone in this company thinks tirelessly working hard is the key. This is a misplaced notion, Tommy. It’s brains over brawn. I choose my battles wisely. The championship will be mine shortly because I am simply the most proficient professional wrestler in the world.”
In AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2024, MJF triumphed over Hechicero, while on the other side of the ring, Strickland successfully defended his AEW World Title against Will Ospreay
