PWInsider has talked to sources confirming that longtime WWE announcer Michael Cole is moving up in the corporate structure at Stamford. Smackdown’s resident play by play man is now the “Vice President of Announcing”.
Michael Cole was originally a war correspondent for CBS Radio, covering the Yugoslavian Civil War and the Oklahoma City Bombing. He’s been with the company for 23 years, doing everything from backstage interviews to heel commentary to beating Jerry Lawler in a WrestleMania match everyone would like to forget. In recent times, Cole has been integral in hiring and mentoring new announcing prospects, and this new moniker could signal a move more backstage for the veteran talker.
There’s no word on a “President of Announcing” or any further corporate structure surrounding the Announcer role. WrestleZone will be sure to be first on the scene if and when that changes.
