At AEW Worlds End 2024 held in Orlando, Florida, Kazuchika Okada emerged as not only the winner of the 2024 AEW Continental Classic tournament but also managed to retain his AEW continental championship.
In the semi-finals, Okada claimed victory over Ricochet thereby advancing to the finals where he squared off against Will Ospreay; the latter had ousted Kyle Fletcher in an earlier round.
Despite a fierce competition, Okada emerged victorious, securing a win through a clean Rainmaker pinfall. There was a true show of sportsmanship when Okada and Ospreay shook hands post-match.
Interestingly, post-match saw Christopher Daniels declaring that he had stepped down from his position of interim Executive Vice President of All Elite Wrestling and therefore, could not present Kazuchika Okada with the AEW Continental Championship. Daniels then gave direction to the phrase “this man is”, beckoning on the arrival of Kenny Omega.
Following Daniels’ announcement, Omega made his much-anticipated return. He approached the ring, AEW continental championship in hand which he then gave to Okada. Their intense stare down hinted at a possible feud lying ahead. The commentators emphasized that Omega’s fighting status remains unclear, however, they couldn’t help but stir up buzz around a potential showdown between him and Okada.
As the Continental Classic culminated, several developments marked the end; Okada holding on to his title, Daniels stepping down from his executive role and the reemergence of Omega in a managerial capacity.
Various tweets from the official All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) Twitter account celebrated Okada’s victory and Omega’s return. As one post put it, “KENNY OMEGA IS BACK!” Other tweets alluded to a possible hidden motive behind Omega delivering Okada his Continental Championship.
