John Cena will battle Solo Sikoa today at WWE Crown Jewel 2023 in Saudi Arabia.

On a recent edition of WWE’s “After the Bell” podcast, Cena discussed the ongoing strike by the actors union (SAG-AFTRA) against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which started in July.

While Cena is unable to promote any of his recent projects or work due to the ongoing strike, there are still exceptions allowing union members to work on certain projects, especially if they are under a different union contract.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On receiving written permission that it was OK for him to return to WWE during the SAG-AFTRA strike: “I’m fortunate enough to have a lot of things on the movie and television side lined up. None of which that I can talk about because we’re in the middle of a labor dispute. The labor dispute happens, the Screen Actors Guild decides as an entirety, to go on strike, which either leaves me idle or asking questions of ‘What can I do? What is within my control?’ I wanted to see if it was okay to come back to tour, so we called the proper people at SAG, we got written legal okay that it would be okay to come back to WWE, and once I had that, then I could ask the question of ‘WWE, do you guys want me to come back and hang out for a little bit? So, here we are.”

On if there was any resistance to him returning to WWE during the strike: “I think at the beginning of the strike, and it’s been going on a long time, I hope it finally gets resolved soon and everybody is happy with it. At the beginning of the strikes, everyone was trepidatious on what can you do and what can’t you do. I know, along the path of the strike, there has also been some situations ‘well, we shouldn’t do this or this.’ I’m very grateful to have a home in WWE and grateful for the Screen Actors Guild to allow me to be part of it.”

SAG-AFTRA received its latest offer from the AMPTP yesterday, and negotiations are expected to continue this weekend.
