MJF, one of the top performers in AEW, returned to wrestling in May, after a loss to Samoa Joe for the AEW World Championship at AEW Worlds End 2023. This followed a break from the ring due to an injury early in 2024.

His return to the AEW universe has been significantly impactful, creating waves within the promotion run by Tony Khan.

During a recent episode of the “Grilling JR” podcast, the well-known AEW broadcaster, Jim Ross, shared his thoughts on MJF’s comeback and its implication for the company.

Ross proclaimed with fervor, “I’m a fan of his. He’s evocative of any ambitious, young talent – full of potential, but in need of maturity. His talent is unmistakable. Although I’m unsure of his future trajectory and interim milestones, I’m thrilled he’s part of our team. He consistently underestimates his worth, even while garnering significant recognition. I’m joyous for his success. MJF is a true wrestling aficionado, both passionate about the business and the end product. There were rumors about him joining WWE, which thankfully didn’t materialize. His pace is fast, sometimes too much so, needing to slow down and savor the experience a little more. Possessing an immense intellectual capacity, oftentimes his eagerness and attitude can hinder his journey more than assist. Wrestling should bring him more joy than it currently does, without it having to always center around him. His intelligence and ability make him an integral part of our team, yet I believe he needs to let go and relish in this amazing journey. I’m rooting for him, he’s an extremely capable lad. Perhaps he might learn to play more, to loosen up, because his talent is truly remarkable. I find him impressive, very much an MVP for us. He exudes a strong aura, one that keeps you on your edge, sharp-witted, yet needing to enjoy the process more.”

Ross was quick to draw parallels between MJF and a young Paul Heyman, recognizing both as serious aficionados of the wrestling world.
