WWE dropped the ball with Rob Conway, according to the promotion’s former Head of Talent Relations Jim Ross
After signing with WWE in 2000, Conway made his proper debut in 2003 as an ally of the villainous La Resistance and would remain with the promotion until early 2007.
During his “Grilling JR” podcast, Ross admitted that he wasn’t sure why Conway didn’t go further in WWE. He said,
“It wasn’t due to reliability because he was a true pro. I don’t ever recall Rob being late to work, or being uncooperative or lazy or anything like that. I just don’t know what the exact reason was — timing could be one thing you can attribute it to. He had a great skill set and was a very underrated talent. I don’t know if coming out of OVW was a negative for him or not … but in any event, he should have done better than he did.”
Ross would later admit that WWE “missed on him” when referring to Conway, who is a five-time OWV Heavyweight Champion and two-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion.
In 2018, Conway would make a brief return as a guest trainer at the WWE Performance Center.
