In the most recent episode of his “My World” podcast, Jeff Jarrett gave his thoughts and impressions on the unexpected heel turn of John Cena against Cody Rhodes during this past weekend’s WWE Elimination Chamber event held in Toronto.
Jarrett expressed, “It has a huge impact. It’s definitely not a ‘Baffle them, you’ll lose them’ situation. On the contrary, everyone gets it. In our highly partisan surroundings…Concluding it all, inherently, as I’ve reiterated on ‘My World’, of course we are part of pop culture, but people now more than ever comprehend that we are dramatic art. In essence, we are delivering Shakespeare to the audience. I indeed don’t predict any overt backlash that might have taken place, say 2, 3, 4, or 5 years ago. I genuinely don’t see that happening today, particularly because of John Cena, his unmatched records with Make-A-Wish, The Rock, the overall WWE brand, and the wrestling industry as a whole. We cater to our audiences seven nights a week, thus we are a constant presence in their homes. They understand who we are and what we represent.”
As for the instance when Cody Rhodes told The Rock to “go f**k yourself”, Jarrett’s immediate response was, “Completely unnecessary in my opinion. That was my instant reaction. What’s to be gained from this? What was the aim? It was just utterly superfluous.”
