In a shocking turn of events in July 2023, Sonya Deville experienced a severe ACL injury that she had initially underestimated. The unfortunate incident occurred during a SmackDown episode, right in the heat of a tag team match alongside Chelsea Green.
Regrettably, the accident forced Deville to prematurely end her tenure as a Women’s Tag Team Champion. The impact of the injury took her by surprise, as she revealed during the “Insight” podcast. Recalling the very moment when she got injured during the match, Deville stated,
“I had no idea. Perhaps my athletic background made me overly confident. I thought to myself ‘I’m alright.’ Despite having tagged out and knowing that something was off, I told myself to hold it together. It was a strange sensation, as if my knee had given up… I still had eight minutes left to survive this match, plus we were about to break for commercials.”
Currently, Deville has made a comeback to the WWE program. She was seen in a backstage clip along with her ex-ally Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark.
