In a recent interview with Shaklel Mahjouri, WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes commented on the creation of an alternative in wrestling, which he and The Elite did with AEW. He said,

“I think as I grow old, I’ll probably wax poetic and grow even fonder of the things I was able to be part of, the people I was able to team with. When we were a group, the BULLET CLUB, The Elite, the idea was change the world and we really did actually change at least our world and like you said, it’s so healthy now. I think all of us are very careful to talk about it because nobody wants to look like they’re saying, hey, it was all me. But the reality is I can name — it’s about eight people and if one of them wasn’t there, it wouldn’t have happened, an alternative wouldn’t exist. It wouldn’t have springboard me into this position I am now. None of it would have happened. It was all these factors and the biggest factor being the fans themselves. So, I just hope people remember it. Selfishly — I joke about this with Matt (Jackson) and Nick (Jackson) all the time — selfishly, you want more people to remember it was something that we did but, I’m just happy to see an industry that I grew up watching through the good times and the bad times is now as popular as it ever was and I appreciate you saying that.“

During a recent appearance on the “Going Ringside” podcast, AEW wrestler Eddie Kingston commented on waiting to return to Japan to defend the AEW Continental Crown title. He said,

“I’m waiting for them to send me back. I love Japan. Japan was everything I wanted and more. That’s a different subject. AEW’s office has to talk with New Japan’s office, especially New Japan Strong, their other promotion, and they have to make sure they can get everything settled with the titles and bringing them together and how to defend it. The real goal, for me personally, is to take the Continental Championship and the crown over to New Japan and make it a world title.“

The Creation of an Alternative in Wrestling: AEW and The Elite

Over the years, the world of professional wrestling has seen its fair share of ups and downs. From the glory days of larger-than-life characters and packed arenas to the struggles of declining viewership and lackluster storylines, the industry has experienced various transformations. However, in recent years, a new alternative has emerged in the form of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), thanks to the efforts of Cody Rhodes and The Elite.

In a recent interview, Cody Rhodes reflected on the creation of AEW and the impact it has had on the wrestling industry. As a former WWE Superstar, Rhodes understood the need for change and wanted to provide fans with a fresh alternative. Alongside his fellow wrestlers known as The Elite, which includes The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) and Kenny Omega, Rhodes embarked on a mission to “change the world.”

The group initially gained recognition as part of the Bullet Club, a popular faction in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Their unique blend of athleticism, storytelling, and innovative ideas caught the attention of fans worldwide. As their popularity grew, so did their desire to revolutionize the wrestling landscape.

Rhodes emphasized that the success of AEW was not solely attributed to him or The Elite but rather a collective effort involving several key individuals. He acknowledged that without each member’s contribution, including the support of the fans, an alternative to the mainstream wrestling scene would not exist. Rhodes expressed his gratitude for being part of this transformative period in wrestling history.

One of the goals for AEW is to collaborate with other promotions, particularly New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Eddie Kingston, an AEW wrestler, recently expressed his desire to defend the AEW Continental Crown title in Japan. He highlighted the importance of AEW’s office working with New Japan’s office to ensure a smooth transition and unify titles. Kingston’s personal aspiration is to elevate the Continental Championship and the crown to the status of a world title.

The emergence of AEW has breathed new life into the wrestling industry. It has provided an alternative platform for wrestlers to showcase their skills and tell compelling stories. AEW’s commitment to athleticism, engaging narratives, and fan interaction has resonated with audiences, resulting in a surge in popularity.
