Former WWE Superstar, Davey Boy Smith Jr., recently had surgery to remove a cataract.
In a recent appearance on the “Cafe de Rene with Rene Dupree” podcast, the wrestling star reflected on the experience of the surgical procedure and his post-surgery recovery. Below are some of the key points he made during the conversation:
Discussing the surgery: “Upon returning home in January from a successful trip, I discovered that I had cataracts in my eyes, a result of two decades of usage of substandard tanning beds. It should serve as a lesson for others to take precautions. I usually refrained from using the protective glasses provided, as they left unsightly marks around the eyes. But it was risky. Over the last six months, I had to rely on obsolete tanning beds in Japan that required 30-40 minutes of exposure to inefficient UV bulbs. The onset of the cataracts seemed sudden, popping up during a three-month break I was on. The surgery cost me around 14,000 dollars. The message from my experience for fellow wrestlers is to ensure financial savings for unexpected events like these. I was fortunate to have the finances to cover it.”
Regarding his recovery: “I underwent the surgery back in the states. My vision is back to perfect after post-op examinations. Before the cataracts, I always had 20/20 vision. It was startling when my vision started getting blurry upon my return from Japan. Visibly struggling, I realised something was off. After several eye examinations, it was revealed that there was a build-up of protein behind my eye. Despite the surgery being expensive, the good news was that my retina is intact, and all the eye veins are healthy. This experience has served as a reminder of the significance of maintaining good eyesight. It’s definitely given me a new perspective on life.”
Switching gears, Outlaw Wrestling has declared the lineup for iconic wrestler, Homicide’s retirement match. Set to take place at Arlo Williamsburg in Brooklyn, New York on Thursday, Homicide will be partnering with Bull James to compete against Afa Jr. and Mike Santana in the ring.
This occasion has been personally designed and put together by Homicide, under the banner of Victory Pro.
