Diamond Dallas Page recently spoke with WrestleZone’s Dominic DeAngelo to share his thoughts on the current state of the wrestling business, including one of it’s hottest stars in Drew McIntyre, who Dallas has a strong relationship with.
As McIntyre was getting ready for his return to WWE, he infamously drove seven hours down to Atlanta to train with DDP and incorporate DDPY further into his workout regiment. Page knew he had wrestling’s next biggest star doing the Diamond Dozen. An individual who was driven and focused.
“I said this two years ago, he has the potential to be the biggest star there,” said Dallas. Even when it seemed like McIntyre’s push was stalled for a few months, DDP was asked if Drew still had that opportunity. “I said abso-fuckin’-lutely. Once they start letting him be an exaggerated version of himself.”
“I always tell him, ‘Dude, you’re the James Bond of wrestling.’ He’s big, he’s built like He-Man, he’s stupid handsome, and when you get to know him and I’m lucky enough to know him very well, he is one of the most upstanding human beings on the planet. Like, he’s just a class act and just he’s good people so you know, we still talk all the time. I’m super proud of him and I’m proud that he’ll be able to get the opportunity.”
Dallas, like many fans who saw the Scottish star Claymore Kick Brock Lesnar out of the ring at the Royal Rumble, knows it’s just a matter of time before Drew gets the WWE built around him as their top star.
“Once Drew explodes, which at some point, he’ll explode and the company will be putting the shit around him and taking it to a different level.”
Something Dallas really admires about Drew as well is all the work that he’s put in to get to the point in where he’s the one to be pointing at that WrestleMania sign.
“He’s had to work for it. He worked his ass off to get there and that’s what you really appreciate.”
