Davey Boy Smith Jr is back in a WWE ring.
According to on-site reports in Houston, Davey Boy Smith Jr. was in action in a dark match before the July 16 episode of WWE SmackDown. Smith teamed with NXT’s Austin Theory against Xyon Quinn (formerly Daniel Vidot) and Odyssey Jones.
PWInsider.com previously reported Theory was one of four NXT talents backstage at tonight’s tapings. The other names included Aaliyah, Xia Li and Odyssey Jones.
Smith makes his first appearance in a WWE ring since April 2011. Known then as DH Smith (later David Hart Smith), he is primarily known for his work in the Hart Dynasty with Tyson Kidd and Natalya and won the WWE and World Tag Team Championship. Since then, he’s gone on to win titles in MLW, NWA and New Japan Pro-Wrestling and previously been in talks to return to WWE under the NXT UK brand, but those discussions were tabled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
