During a recent appearance on T95 The Rock, Paul Wight lavished praise on AEW World Champion MJF, calling him a “modern-day Ric Flair.”

Wight said, “When I look at MJF, because MJF is naturally cocky, you know he’s a hard worker, he’s got that swag to him, he understands performing, he was a child star on Broadway, so he’s got some chops, got some talent, but he understands who he is, he understands what works. To me, there’s only one Ric Flair, but I look at MJF, he’s the most modern-day Ric Flair that I’ve seen. There’s heels that get heat and then there are guys like Ric Flair that you hate him, but then at the same time, you can’t wait to see what they say next … like Ric Flair, Roddy Piper.”

MJF will defend the AEW World Title against Daniel Garcia tomorrow night on AEW Dynamite.

On a recent edition of the “WrestlePurists” podcast, Rocky Romero discussed Mercedes Mone appearing in NJPW and if the promotion has any plans to work with her again following her recovery from her ankle injury.

Romero said, “I honestly don’t have an update right now. I hope that I’ll be talking to her agent and her maybe soon-ish, but I honestly don’t have any update about anything. The last thing I had heard was that she was recovering well and basically, they were going to let me know or reach out when she was getting close to a comeback.”

Mone was sidelined with an ankle injury she suffered at NJPW Resurgence 2023. She made an appearance at AEW All In 2023 at Wembley Stadium this past August.

In a recent interview on T95 The Rock, Paul Wight, also known as The Big Show, praised AEW World Champion MJF, comparing him to the legendary Ric Flair. Wight described MJF as a “modern-day Ric Flair” due to his natural cockiness, hard work ethic, performing skills, and understanding of his character.

Wight acknowledged that there is only one Ric Flair, but he believes that MJF embodies many of the qualities that made Flair such a memorable and hated heel in the wrestling industry. He mentioned that heels like Flair and Roddy Piper were able to generate heat from the audience, but at the same time, fans couldn’t wait to see what they would say or do next.

MJF is set to defend his AEW World Title against Daniel Garcia on an upcoming episode of AEW Dynamite. This match will be a test for MJF as he continues to establish himself as one of the top stars in the company.

Romero mentioned that he doesn’t have any updates at the moment but hopes to speak with Mone and her agent soon. He stated that the promotion would reach out when she is close to making a comeback.

Mone suffered an ankle injury at NJPW Resurgence 2023 and has been on the sidelines since then. She made an appearance at AEW All In 2023 in August, showcasing her talent to a wider audience.
