With a monikers like “Thicc Boi” and “The Colossal”, Bronson Reed is widely viewed as one of the most impressive big men on WWE NXT.
Naturally, he wants to test himslf by facing one of the best powerhouses in the game — Samoa Joe.
In an interview with Denise Salcedo of TheSportster, Reed explained how he has been dreaming of working with “The Samoan Submission Machine” for a long time. (Transcription credit of Denise Salcedo of TheSportster, who passed along the following quotes from the interview.)
“I think there is someone that everyone wants to see me wrestle, as well as myself,” said Reed. “I was a big fan of his as a teenager, it’s Samoa Joe. Younger, I was a big fan of the Attitude Er,a but then as a teenager I sort of discovered the independent scene and CM Punk and Samoa Joe were my two favorites, they sort of shaped my teenage years.
“So then all these years down the line, and now I am in the same locker room as Samoa Joe, I feel like it’s just inevitable, it’s fate that me and him wrestle in that ring at some stage. And it’s something that I’ve wanted for years, as a fan to then becoming a wrestler, if it happens I think you’re gonna see fireworks.”
Among other names, Reed has been in rumor mill recently, as the reports of his dark matches led many fans to believe that he is due for a call-up to WWE’s main roster. The former NXT North American Champion discussed this speculation and acknowledged that he understands why people would connect these dotes. But he made it clear that while he loves being in NXT and he’s still on the black-and-gold brand, he’s excited for competing on WWE RAW or SmackDown.
“For the time being I am still in NXT and I love being in NXT,” said Reed. “And when I lost that belt I knew straight away that everyone on Twitter and Instagram; I knew that was gonna be what everyone thought because I am like ‘okay that makes sense that’s what people think.’ But it is something that I look forward to doing. I look forward to doing more with NXT but at the same time, as a kid growing up as such a big fan, I wanna be on Royal Rumble, I wanna be on Summerslam, I wanna have my Wrestlemania moment. So to be able to do that you have to be on a Raw or Smackdown.
Reed remains focused on the black-and-gold brand, at least for now, and he’ll face one of the faces of NXT when he meets Adam Cole in the ring on Tuesday night. In the interview, he previewed this bout and explained that he views it as a chance to cement himself as a top star.
“This is a match that I think, not only myself, but I think the fans want it as well,” said Reed. “When it was announced there was a big buzz online. We brushed shoulders backstage before but we’ve never done it in the ring. So it’s definitely a clash of styles, myself and Adam Cole wrestle very differently.
“And he’s seen as NXT’s top star, I believe he is the #1 guy for NXT and for me to be there with him means that I am up there with him. I am that main event caliber, but to beat him would definitely cement me as one of NXT’s best.”
