In a recent installment of his “Hall of Fame” podcast, wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer, Booker T, engaged in conversation on the possible recruitment of Lucha Brothers (consisting of Rey Fenix & Penta El Zero Miedo) by WWE.
Reportedly, the Lucha Brothers are envisaged to depart from AEW following the expiration of their contracts. Penta is due to exit between August and September, while Fenix’s contract termination is expected later within the year.
Key points from the podcast discussion include:
Speaking on WWE’s interest in the Lucha Brothers, Booker T commented: “I love it, man. Bring the Lucha Brothers over, place them on the primary roster. Even allow them to go through NXT and participate in some events. These guys are incredibly talented, they deserve an opportunity. That’s what makes wrestling exciting right now, particularly with WWE interfacing with TNA, and collaborating with the wrestlers. Because it’s never about the organization. It’s about the individuals. It’s about professional wrestlers having a shot at an exhilarating thrill ride… I was musing, ‘There’s no reason, if you’re a young athlete in this industry, irrespective of whether you’re associated with AEW or independents, you’d yearn to be a part of it. You’d crave to have that experience at least once in your lifetime, if you’ve witnessed it. Because it’s something every aspiring wrestler dreams of.”
While on the subject of Rey Fenix, Booker T applauded, “Rey Fenix, man. He is the ascendant successor to Rey Mysterio, Jr. He truly is that skilled.”
