On April 11, 2025, an epic six-team gauntlet showdown featuring some of the biggest names in WWE Superstars took place on Friday Night SmackDown. This match determined who would face the reigning champions in the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match.
This decisive contest was one of the last chances to secure a spot on the coveted WWE WrestleMania 41 card for the women’s division.
The initial faceoff was between Bayley and Lyra Valkyria, and the Pure Fusion Collective, consisting of Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark. With victory in their grasp, the women’s intercontinental champion and her latest adversary went on a winning streak, taking down the competition, one team at a time.
Maxxine Dupri and Natalya were the next to be ousted, followed shortly by the dynamic duo of Katana Chance & Kayden Carter. B-Fab and Michin were the next in line. The final challenge came from The Secret Hervice, featuring Alba Fyre & Piper Niven, but they, too, couldn’t outshine Bayley and Valkyria. The latter duo fought a hard battle, earning them a shot at the championship.
Although Valkyria secured her spot on the card, she will not be defending her Women’s Intercontinental Championship. As of now, no match has been scheduled for Chelsea Green and the Women’s United States Championship. Unless an unexpected announcement is made soon, these champions could be left out of the show.
It’s not just them though; the SmackDown’s WWE Tag Team Championship titles also seem to be getting side-lined, reinforcing the theory that SmackDown’s titles are underappreciated this year.
