RJ City, prior to his move to AEW, was a WWE employee from 2020 through 2021, actively contributing as a host and interviewer and creating digitally based content.
RJ City’s presence was appreciated across a range of events, including pay-per-view watch-alongs. His most significant accomplishment during his time with WWE was launching “WrestleMania After Dark with RJ City.” The show premiered on WWE’s YouTube platform right on the heels of 2021’s WrestleMania 37.
Furthermore, he held a role in “The Bump” and spearheaded a recurring feature named “Wednesday Morning Wake-Up.”
During his latest guest appearance in a Sign-it-Live session hosted by Highspots, City shared some past insights. He revealed that he had been slated to host a show called SummerSlam After Dark in 2021, which would feature celebrities such as Fred Ottman (Tugboat), Shayna Baszler, and Asuka. However, the WWE decided to scale back its digital department that same year.
“We created a remarkable thing known as WrestleMania After Dark. It was a comedy-centric special, available on both YouTube and Peacock for an unspecified period, aired between the first and second nights of WrestleMania – the one which was interrupted by the rain. They were thrilled with it and wanted more. So we had designed and written the concept for SummerSlam After Dark. But unfortunately, two weeks before we could start producing it, they decided to overhaul the entire digital department. The plans [I had drafted] for SummerSlam After Dark included a phone chat with James Adomian as Jesse Ventura and appearances from Tugboat, Shayna Baszler, and Asuka. We even had a fun game lined up called ‘Is André the Giant hot?’ where we’d bring up a photo and have a discussion,” RJ City narrated.
Fast forward to 2023, RJ City joined AEW in a multifaceted role of a writer, on-screen presenter, and pre-show panel host for pay-per-view events, collaborating with Renee Paquette.
In addition, RJ City is the brain behind his self-produced show “Hey! (EW),” exclusively available on AEW’s YouTube channel.
